Economical aspects

The primary reason for the use of pressure sewers is economic, although in some cases the decisions are environmentally motivated. Conventional sewers have a high cost per meter of sewer installed. Where homes are sparse, the resulting cost gets high. Pressure sewers can then be installed less expensively on a per meter basis.

In areas where rock is encountered when excavating to install mainline sewers, pressure sewers can cost less. The deep, wide trenches required to install conventional sewers are much more expensive to construct than the shallow, narrow trenches, needed for pressure sewers.
